The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) was established in 1982 by the Government of India as an autonomous body to promote the coordinated growth and development of hospitality management education across the country.
The Council was initially created under the name National Board of Studies in Food Management, Catering & Nutrition and functioned under the administrative control of the Ministry of Agriculture (Department of Food). In 1984, it was transferred to the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and renamed as the National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology.
The Council’s head office is located at A-34, Sector-62, Noida (U.P.), within its own campus, while its registered office is situated at Pusa, New Delhi.

NCHMCT regulates academic standards in the field of hospitality education and training delivered through Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) and Food Craft Institutes (FCIs). For the Academic Year 2024–25, a total of 95 institutes operate under the Council’s academic umbrella, comprising:

  • 21 Central Government–sponsored Institutes of Hotel Management
  • 35 State Government–sponsored Institutes of Hotel Management
  • 1 PSU-owned Institute
  • 25 Private Institutes
  • 13 Food Craft Institutes

Together, these institutes offer 13 professional programmes leading to the award of Certificates, Diplomas, Post Graduate Diplomas, Bachelor’s Degrees, and Master’s Degrees in various disciplines of hospitality and catering management.
